Iberville: A Unique Shoebox Home Transformation with a Mezzanine to Extend the Space

Iberville is a home project to transform a little one-story shoebox house into a unique and spacious one. It is a house in a megalopolis area, where tall buildings and trees furiously conceal the property.

Space always becomes the major issue of a shoebox home. A mezzanine is one of the great options worth trying to solve this problem. It instantly makes the house conspicuous enough for the dwellers around and also spacious for the homeowner.

Design

As the initial planning is not to distort the original building, adding a new level to the roof—the idea of mezzanine—is the only strategy to use.  It increases the living space and vividly exposes the house to the surroundings.

In order to enlarge the patio, an open plan can offer an immense space with the ideas of fewer partition walls. Therefore, stripping away all the excess partitions of the house is a must-to-do procedure. Then, the homeowner only needs to furnish the rooms with minimalist and modern furniture.

Rooms

With its old shoebox house structure, the house’s main living spaces such as kitchen, master bedroom, living room, and dining room are still on the first floor. Meanwhile, the upper-level space is more intended for the homeowner’s grown-up child and house storage. A built-in cabinet was also installed along the wall.

The balcony gives the homeowner an advantage to clap eyes on the surrounding garden and trees. Besides, an extra room for the new minimalist bathroom on the second floor is the child’s premium facility.

Color Selections

Though it is a shoebox home from outside, it still radiates the romantic allure with bold black and light yellow for the exterior colors. Likewise, applying natural color for the pallet floor and furniture may give extra points for this unique shoebox house.

Yet, the interior is full of the simplicity of white and some other neutral colors as the hue. For example, beige is for the floor and tabletop in the kitchen. Or, black is for the stairs and backsplash of the sink.
